O Aorus X5 é tudo o que esperávamos da Aorus. É um portátil para usuários que não estão satisfeitos com o desempenho e recursos de portáteis para jogos ultraleves como o Asus G501 ou MSI GS60, mas ainda desejam o poder e a expansibilidade de modelos mais robustos como os Clevo barebones (Eurocom P5 Pro) e a série Alienware sem o peso pesado. Em alguns casos, o X5 consegue oferecer mais que a concorrência com a sua tela 3K G-SYNC, um grande número de portas de saída de vídeo, e interior acessível.

Todos os portáteis Aorus compartilham as mesmas desvantagens, incluindo forte ruído da ventoinha durante os jogos, curtas durações, temperaturas mais altas, e chassi mais fraco em comparação com grandes concorrentes como o MSI GT72, Asus G751, e Alienware 17. Enquanto a GTX 965M SLI se desempenho muito bem e oferece desempenho do nível GTX 980M, a CPU Broadwell não consegue manter o seu Turbo Boost máximo por mais de um par de minutos. Além disso, o portátil não inclui slot PCIe x4, apenas um que conseguiu superar nossos SSDs dual M.2 Lite-On.

Talvez a melhor carta do X5 é a sua combinação de tela 3K, SLI, e G-SYNC. A tecnologia de atualização adaptativa da Nvidia permite que a SLI funcione muito mais fluentemente quando as taxas de fotogramas são baixas ou erráticas, as quais são comuns em sistemas de duas GPUs com resoluções mais altas.
