Since I couldn’t find any reviews of the Vostro 1500's i thought I’d go ahead and write one so hear goes. All in all I’m very happy with it but I did ding them for the build quality since the seem on the right side of the lcd isn’t perfect, still not sure if i want to send it back for repair since they might replace it with a refurbished one (I hate the idea of buying new and getting repair with used parts).

What do you get when you strip a Dell Inspiron laptop of its colors, remove all the trial software, and add a full range of support services for small businesses? You get a Dell Vostro, of course. The Dell Vostro 1500 ($1,282 direct) is a laptop that caters to business environments with less than 25 employees. It's a little on the heavy side, but overall, you get quality features and premium processing parts for a price that even Inspiron lovers can love.
Everything about the Vostro 1500 is reminiscent of the Inspiron line, with the exception of the black-clad frame. It's obvious that Dell instructed the design squad to make the Vostro line as bland and conservative as possible, to meet the expectations of serious business users. Luckily, only the color scheme was sacrificed.

The Dell Vostro 1500 is a no frills look laptop that's functional and highly configurable in terms of specs and software.  Is it cool looking?  Far from it.  Is it a highly portable notebook?  Nope, it's heavy for its size.  Does it provide value for the dollar and peace of mind with the 30-day return window?  Absolutely, and that's the reason I can recommend it.

The Dell Vostro 1500 is the small business equivalent of the Inspiron 1520. This computer, starting at less than $600, can be configured with anywhere from a Celeron M540 processor to a much faster Core 2 Duo 7500. Unlike the Inspiron model, an AMD option is unavailable. Upon unpacking the Vostro 1500 and first handling it, I was rather impressed by the build. Upon picking up the system, it’s clear the computer is very sturdy and will hold up over time. Unfortunately, the side effect of this build quality is the heaviness and size. This machine is a beast. I make a note of handing it to people and watching their reaction. Everyone is shocked by the sheer weight of this machine. The design of this system is rather spartan, but also very professional with the solid black styling. It’s not flashy like a high-end gaming laptop would be, but it doesn’t look bad to my eyes. The LEDs have a nice saturated blue color, though Dell was inconsistent in the styling. Several lights, including the battery level LEDs, the CD drive LED, and the “Wi-Fi Catcher” LED are green. In addition, the low battery light is an odd shade of hot pink, which fits with nothing else in the system.

Dell's range of laptops has remained remarkably consistent over the years. The Latitude range caters for business users, including excellent machines such as the D430, the Inspiron range for home users, such as the Inspiron 6400 (web ID: 86247), and the XPS range for gaming enthusiasts. With seemingly all bases covered, you could be forgiven for feeling a little bemused by yet another range. The marketing material claims the Vostro brand is targeted specifically at small businesses with between one and ten employees. The idea is a reasonable one, since those with fewer than ten employees are unlikely to bother with a centralised IT infrastructure, meaning PCs and laptops need to take care of their own maintenance and backup. Extra services are the key, with Dell relying on some business-style touches to get the Vostro brand noticed.

NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT: NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT é a sucessora direta DirectX 10 da GeForce Go 7600 GT para portáteis. Dependendo da memória gráfica usada e a velocidade de freqüência, o desempenho entre as placas de vídeo 7600 GT e 7900 GS. Por tanto, jogos atuais como Company of Heroes, Supreme Commander, ou F.E.A.R podem ser jogados fluentemente  com altos detalhes numa resolução de 1024 ou similar. Jogados que o tempo todo esperam frame rates supremos, deverão esperar a serie 8800 da NVidia.

Estas placas também devem ser capazes de agüentar todos os jogos atuais, mas a maioria deles em configurações de detalhes médios e baixos e com baixas resoluções. Jogos mais antigos, ou menos exigentes ainda podem ser jogados com boa qualidade de gráficos.

Intel Core 2 Duo: Este é o sucessor do Core Duo e o Core Solo com um pipeline mais longo e com 5-20%  a mais de velocidade sem maior consumo de energia. Adicionalmente ao design do Core Duo existe um quarto decodificador, uma unidade SSE ampliada e uma unidade lógica aritmética (ALU) adicional.

Os Core 2 Duo para notebooks são idênticos aos processadores Core 2 Duo para desktops, mas os processadores para notebooks trabalham com tensões mais baixas e um Frontside bus clock mais baixo. O desempenho de notebooks igualmente clocked é 20-25% mais baixo que PCs Desktop  por causa do Frontside bus clock mais baixo e os discos rígidos mais lentos.
