NVIDIA Quadro M500M
A Nvidia Quadro M500M é uma placa de vídeo compatível com DirectX 12 (FL 11_0) e OpenGL 4.5 para workstations móveis. É uma GPU baseada em Maxwell montada no chip GM108 com 384 núcleos shader e produzida em 28 nm pela TSMC. A Quadro M500M é a sucessora da Quadro K620M que também se baseia na Maxwell GM108, mas lista uma banda larga de 16 vs. 14,4 GB/s. Portanto, também é similar à GeForce 930M de consumo.
A série Quadro oferece controladores certificados que estão otimizados para oferecer estabilidade e desempenho em aplicativos profissionais como CAD ou DCC. O desempenho OpenGL, por exemplo, deve ser significantemente melhor que com a placa de vídeo GeForce de especificações similares.
Comparada com Kepler, a Maxwell foi otimizada em vários detalhes para aumentar a eficiência da energia. Smaller Streaming Multiprocessors (SMM) com apenas 128 ALUs (Kepler: 192) e um agendador de tarefas otimizado deveria resultar em uma melhor utilização dos shaders. A Nvidia promete que os SMM Maxwell com 128 ALUs podem oferecer até 90% do desempenho de um Kepler SMX com 192 ALUs. A GM108 tem 3 SMMs e, portanto, 384 núcleos shader, 24 TMUs e 8 ROPs (interface de 64-bits).
Outra otimização é o chache L2 massivamente incrementado. O tamanho maior pode reduzir de um pouco do tráfico da memória para permitir uma interface de memória relativamente estreita sem afetar significativamente o desempenho.
A GM108 suporta DirectX 11.2 (feature level 11.0 apenas) bem como DirectX 12.
O desempenho deve estar um pouco abaixo do da Quadro K620M (mesmo chip, mas um pouco mais de largura de banda da memória) e, portanto se posiciona na gama baixa de chips gráficos dedicados. Para os jogos em 3D a Quadro M500M deve ser similar à GeForce 930M. Portanto, somente os jogos pouco exigentes devem rodar fluentemente.
O conjunto de recursos deve incluir suporte para até 4 monitores ativos. Os monitores de alta resolução de até 3840x2160 pixels podem ser conectados usando DisplayPort 1.2 ou HDMI 1.4a (HDMI 2.0 não suportado). Codecs HD-Audio, tais como Dolby TrueHD e DTS-HD, podem ser transmitidos através do modo bitstream através da porta HDMI. No entanto, como a maioria dos portáteis contará com Optimus, o GPU integrado provavelmente terá controle direto sobre as portas para monitor e pode limitar o conjunto de recursos disponibilizados pelas placas Nvidia Kepler.
Usar o CUDA ou OpenCL, os núcleos da Quadro K620M podem ser usados para cálculos gerais.
A GM108 integra a sexta geração do motor de vídeo PureVideo HD (VP6), oferecendo um melhor desempenho de decodificação para vídeo H.264 e MPEG-2. É claro, o VP6 suporta todos os recursos das gerações anteriores (suporte para 4K, PIP, codificação de vídeo via NVENC API).
O consumo de energia da Quadro M500M (e M600M, K620M) é de 30 W., portanto, a GPU é mais apta para portáteis de 13 - 14-polegadas e maiores. A M500M também suporta Optimus para alternar automaticamente entre uma placa de vídeo integrada da Intel e a GPU Nvidia.
