For gamers who really must have it all, the Asus G53JW appears to have been sent from gaming heaven. Breathless i7 quad core processor speed, top flight Nvidia graphics capabilities and fully integrated 3D all conspire to make it a formidable, if pricey, beast. Overall, we’d rate the G53 is an extremely desirable piece of kit, with some minor caveats. It’s expensive, but if you want an all singing and dancing gaming transportable, then that price is justifiable. And naturally, your mates will just ooze envy at the sight of it.

The sin of the ASUS G53JW-3DE is price. Nvidia 3D Vision requires that a laptop have a unique, low-resolution 120Hz display and special glasses that enable the stereoscopic 3D effects. These options don’t come cheap and as a result the price of the 3DE model rises to a stratospheric $1799 while the entry-level ASUS G53JW-XA1 retails for just $1349.

On its own, the Asus G53Jw-3DE is a powerful 3D gaming notebook: You get a Core i7 processor, Nvidia graphics, 3D display, and Blu-ray for $1,769. Another good choice in this category is the HP Envy 17 3D, which not only has a larger, brighter, and higher-resolution screen, but performs just as well, weighs less, and costs nearly $100 less. Still, Nvidia's 3D Vision supports more games than ATI's technology, which powers the Envy, and you don't have to use special software to start playing. While some may want to wait for Asus to bring 3D to its 17-inch G73J, which has a 1080p display, the 15.6-inch G53Jw-3DE is a solid 3D notebook.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M: Placa de vídeo DirectX 11 de alta capacidade que se baseia no chip GF106 usando memória gráfica GDDR5 (1,5 GB).

Estas placas também devem ser capazes de agüentar todos os jogos atuais, mas a maioria deles em configurações de detalhes médios e baixos e com baixas resoluções. Jogos mais antigos, ou menos exigentes ainda podem ser jogados com boa qualidade de gráficos.

740QM: O Core i7-740QM é um CPU quad-core de alta capacidade para portáteis (em 2010) com uma freqüência base relativamente baixa e uma freqüência Turbo Boost máxima alta de 2,93 GHz (para um núcleo). Portanto, combina as vantagens de um CPU quad core lento com um veloz cpu de um só núcleo. Comparado com os CPUs Core i7 móveis, o 740QM somente apresenta 6MB L3 Cache.
