It's not just a buttoned-down black version of an Inspiron. The Vostro 1400, part of a new Dell notebook line, was designed from the ground up to appeal to the specific needs of small-business customers (offices with 1 to 25 workers). From tune-up and network-assistant tools to an easy online-backup solution, using the Vostro 1400 is like having a tiny IT guy inside your system. Plus, you get all of the multimedia amenities of a consumer notebook (webcam, multimedia controls, 8-in-1 card reader) without the crapware that bogs down other brands. With its rounded edges and soft-touch-finish lid, this notebook certainly looks hipper than the corporate Latitude line. (You don't have the Inspiron's eight color options, but that's fine given this system's target audience.) The six-pound Vostro 1400 is relatively thick and heavy for a notebook with a 14.1-inch display, but the magnesium-alloy chassis feels sturdy.

Dell is targeting small business buyers with the Vostro line of notebooks, but given the sturdy build, excellent price and option for installing Windows XP and less bloatware, models such as the Vostro 1400 might appeal to consumers as well. Ever since selling my XPS M140, I have been keeping my eyes open for another notebook deal. For a while, I was seriously considering the Asus W3j, but I just couldn’t justify the high price. Instead, I bought a desktop to hold me over. I wanted a notebook that was portable and had good battery life (4 hours or more was my goal). I also wanted something in the $600-$800 range. I wanted my future notebook to have a 12-14” widescreen display, have discreet graphics, have a built in webcam and microphone. The Vostro 1400 met all of my needs and at a great price! The Dell Vostro 1400 is an excellent choice for the price!

NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS: NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS é a sucessora com DirectX 10 da GeForce Go 7400 para notebooks e é tecnologicamente mais lenta que a placa de vídeo 8400M GT. O desempenho é levemente maior que a 7400 e pelo tanto pode representar jogos atuais fluentemente com detalhes e resoluções reduzidos. Para pessoas que jogam ocasionalmente, pode ser suficiente.
Estes processadores gráficos podem mostrar fluidamente só jogos antigos. Jogos atuais só podem ser apresentados com detalhes substancialmente reduzidos.
