The Lenovo ThinkPad R61 laptop uses an Intel Core Duo 2 1.8 GHz with 1 GB RAM pre installed so it will be fast, reliable and capable of running multiple applications at the same time.  One of the great things about this specific model is that you can upgrade the RAM to a maximum 3 GB if needed which will dramatically increase the speed in which it runs.

Lenovo has done a major overhaul of their ThinkPad line of notebooks and that made it all the way down to the R series. The R61 uses the new roll cage design chassis that improves the rigidity and reduces the amount of flex. This is a great bonus to an already superbly reliable platform originally developed by IBM.
The ThinkPad R61 has a fairly powerful Intel Core 2 Duo T5250 dual core mobile processor at the heart of it. This is an excellent processor for such a low cost setup. The problem is that Lenovo has decided to ship only 512MB of PC2-5300 DDR2 memory with it. That amount works OK for limited application use with the older Windows XP Professional operating system, but it really needs at least a full gigabyte for those looking to use it more heavily. Storage is a bit disappointing on the ThinkPad R61.

Lenovo Group Limited is the fourth largest personal computer manufacturer in the world, and their laptops have reminded me of business suitability in a sleek, although uninspired design. Lenovo’s ThinkPad R61 is the budget item of the ThinkPad series, although it’s packed with the power to prove it’s a major contender on the market. Today we will be looking at the 14.1” WXGA+ version, which is of very similar design to the T61 14.1” widescreen. There are also 15.4” widescreen versions of the R61 available, although they are clearly larger and heavier than the sleeker 14.1” widescreen models. The ThinkPad R61 comes in matte black, with rounded corners and a ThinkPad logo emblazoned on the bottom right of the lid. There are two silver hinges visible, which exhibit smooth travel as well as a powerful look.

The Lenovo ThinkPad R61's 14.1in screen and 2.6kg weight make it an ideal travel companion, too. For a work-oriented notebook decked out with all the trimmings, the Lenovo ThinkPad R61 is hard to beat. The Lenovo ThinkPad R61's first-rate keyboard includes both a Touchpad and an eraserhead nub, as well as dedicated internet forward and back buttons. An integrated fingerprint reader, located in the right palmrest, makes log-ins a breeze once you set it up. You can hot-swap devices - the dual-layer DVD drive or an extra battery, among others - in and out of the right-side modular bay with one hand. On-screen documentation and system recovery utilities are just a button press away, with the Lenovo ThinkPad R61.

The Thinkpad R61 was released by Lenovo earlier in 2007 as a “thin-and-light” model of the “R-series” line-up. New features in the R61 include a redesigned roll cage for extra reinforcement in the lid, the new Intel “Santa Rosa” platform for mobile computers and built in wireless WAN antenna on the left side of the lid (built in). The Lenovo Thinkpad R61 14.1” widescreen follows the traditional Thinkpad design while not sacrificing performance or reliability. The R61 is available at a slightly lower price than the T61. While lacking only in a high-end graphics card selection (T61p), the R61 remains a very strong competitor that I recommend as a less expensive alternative. This notebook is my first notebook and will be used mostly for university studies, casual gaming, office work, web surfing and some mathematics programming. I was not looking for a gaming notebook so I chose the Intel X3100 graphics card as it provides more than enough power to satisfy Vista’s graphics requirements.

Pitched squarely at the corporate market for running mainstream applications (for premier performance you’ll still want the T-Series), the ThinkPad R61 (from £580 ex. VAT) also boasts an all-new Top Cover Roll Cage, improved cooling system, enhanced wireless connectivity, as well as longer battery life. It also comes pre-installed with Vista Business. Is this the best ThinkPad ever? Not quite, but the R61 is still an excellent all-round business workhorse and has helped raise the profile of the R-Series. Lenovo’s R-Series used to play second fiddle to the T-Series, offering cut-down features and less performance for budget-strapped businesses. The pedigree gap is now closer, and the ThinkPad R61 is a very good laptop which should certainly be considered if you don’t need the premier performance of the T-Series.

The good: The Lenovo ThinkPad R61 has a wide-screen display; an internal roll cage protects the LCD; 802.11n Wi-Fi; dedicated graphics; very small AC adapter. The bad: New Centrino technology doesn't offer outsize performance gains. The bottom line: The IBM blueprint is still evident in the Lenovo ThinkPad R61, but the addition of a wide-screen display and all the latest Centrino Duo tricks make this a ThinkPad that could woo home users along with its legion of fans among business travelers.

NVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M: Baseada na GeForce 8400M G ou GS para portáteis a Quadro NVS 140 foi desenhada para o setor de negócios fornecendo compatibilidade e estabilidade melhoradas. Com respeito ao desempenho deveria ser comparável a uma 8400 G ou GS, mas, talvez classifica um pouco mais baixo, por causa de um controlador "mais estável". Por tanto, a NVS 140M fornece um nível básico de desempenho 3D.

Intel Core 2 Duo: Este é o sucessor do Core Duo e o Core Solo com um pipeline mais longo e com 5-20%  a mais de velocidade sem maior consumo de energia. Adicionalmente ao design do Core Duo existe um quarto decodificador, uma unidade SSE ampliada e uma unidade lógica aritmética (ALU) adicional.

Os Core 2 Duo para notebooks são idênticos aos processadores Core 2 Duo para desktops, mas os processadores para notebooks trabalham com tensões mais baixas e um Frontside bus clock mais baixo. O desempenho de notebooks igualmente clocked é 20-25% mais baixo que PCs Desktop  por causa do Frontside bus clock mais baixo e os discos rígidos mais lentos.
