Its giant dimensions seem like overkill: the Alienware Area-51 m9750 is a 17in laptop yet it is more than 20mm deeper than the 17in Samsung M60 we recently tested and, at 5.4kg, is more than 2kg heavier than the M60. The Alienware, then, is a laptop designed for static use, rather than being carted about from place to place. Its ridged, all black casing is certainly durable, but the brutish Alienware Area-51 m9750 doesn't look all that attractive, particularly when set alongside similarly sized laptops. When it comes to its main selling point – entertainment – the Alienware Area-51 m9750 is hard to fault. The large speakers with subwoofers at the front produce full and booming surround sound, while Alienware has crammed in a multi-format drive that includes DVD-RAM (useful for archiving video you've edited), a TV tuner and 1.3Mp webcam.

Unfortunately for gamers this has become a bit of a pipe dream, as most notebooks are grossly underpowered, and those that come close, like the Area-51 m15x, cost a small fortune.

Granted our m15x came with all the extras, like a seconday hard drive, Blu-ray disc burner, and an extra battery. We love the addition of an HDMI port, and we think it’s a great idea to connect your laptop to your home theater, an option that's a little tougher to find in the competition, and we’re guessing you have plenty of fun toys to connect that HDMI port if you can buy this laptop. Simply stated, If you're in the market for a high-class gaming laptop, have the money to spend, and love the “new” Alienware design, this is an excellent purchase.

I had a blast using the m15x. This notebook is absolutely the best looking and performing notebook ever conceived by man. I had so much fun that I have never tested a notebook as thoroughly as I have the m15x. I kept trying to think of tests to run as an excuse to keep it longer. It makes me giddy thinking about the new features Alienware has in store for the m17x due out (hopefully) soon. If you're looking for a 15 inch notebook, that can handle any game that is thrown at it, the m15x is the correct choice.

I had so much fun that I have never tested a notebook as thoroughly as I have the m15x. I kept trying to think of tests to run as an excuse to keep it longer. It makes me giddy thinking about the new features Alienware has in store for the m17x due out (hopefully) soon. If you're looking for a 15 inch notebook, that can handle any game that is thrown at it, the m15x is the correct choice.

Comentario

Alienware: A Alienware foi fundada nos EUA em 1996. A sede europeia está localizada na Irlanda. A Alienware faz parte do Grupo Dell desde 2006. A linha de produtos se concentra principalmente em laptops e desktops para jogos, que são desenvolvidos e fabricados pela Dell. A marca registrada é um design levemente futurista com um alienígena como logotipo. Além disso, são vendidas estações de trabalho para clientes particulares e empresariais.

Como acontece com toda marca, a Alienware também tem alguns pontos de crítica. Alguns clientes reclamaram dos altos preços dos produtos, enquanto outros criticaram a qualidade do atendimento ao cliente. Também houve alguns relatos de problemas com a confiabilidade e a durabilidade de alguns produtos da Alienware. Entretanto, muitos clientes também tiveram experiências positivas com a marca e apreciaram os potentes computadores para jogos.

Alguns jogos atuais não tão exigentes podem ser jogados fluentemente com poucos detalhes.

NVIDIA GeForce 8800M GTX: A Nvidia GeForce 8800M GTX está baseada no chip de desktop G92 e oferece um claro melhor desempenho que a GeForce 8700M GT e 8800M GTS graças ao bus de memória de 256 bit.

NVIDIA GeForce 8800M GTX SLI: Duas Nvidia GeForce 8800M GTX são combinadas por SLI com o propósito de oferecer o mais rápido desempenho gráfico para portáteis. Além do mais, jogos DirectX 10 devem se executar fluentemente com altos detalhes em altas resoluções.

Estas placas de vídeo de classe média podem mostrar todos os jogos atuais fluentemente. Jogos exigentes somente podem ser jogados com configurações de detalhes médios.

Intel Core 2 Duo: Este é o sucessor do Core Duo e o Core Solo com um pipeline mais longo e com 5-20%  a mais de velocidade sem maior consumo de energia. Adicionalmente ao design do Core Duo existe um quarto decodificador, uma unidade SSE ampliada e uma unidade lógica aritmética (ALU) adicional.

Os Core 2 Duo para notebooks são idênticos aos processadores Core 2 Duo para desktops, mas os processadores para notebooks trabalham com tensões mais baixas e um Frontside bus clock mais baixo. O desempenho de notebooks igualmente clocked é 20-25% mais baixo que PCs Desktop  por causa do Frontside bus clock mais baixo e os discos rígidos mais lentos.

T9500: O CPU de classe média alta para portáteis para portáteis baseados em Santa Rosa (FSB 800). O T9550 oferece somente uma freqüência levemente mais alta, mas apresenta um FSB de 1066.

Intel Core 2 Extreme:

X9000: O CPU Core 2 móvel mais caro e mais veloz no momento do lançamento com um consumo de energia mais alto de 44 W e freqüência de 2,8 GHz. Depois o X9100 substituiu o X9000 como o dual core mais veloz.
