EVGA did an amazing job for its first notebook product. It offered everything that a modern notebook gamer wants. It is price competitive with MSI gaming notebooks too. At press time EVGA SC17 is discounted to $2499 making it rather nice buy for a gaming notebook. We were impressed to be able to play the latest games at decent resolutions. EVGA SC17 offers exceptional performance with the incredibly fast CPU, GPU, 32GB RAM and plenty of storage and even the 4K display. This is a first of many, we believe and people who would like smaller resolution will probably get an option too. We didn’t find any problems by playing games at lower than 3840x2160 resolution when needed. Even the fastest notebook today cannot cope with 4K content at decent frame rates.

We have to admit that, given that the EVGA SC17 is a first-effort laptop from a first-time notebook maker, we expected a product rougher around the edges. Instead, EVGA proved it could produce a world-class gaming notebook with all the polish we’d expect from a major brand. It did well almost everywhere, and that’s saying a lot.

After spending a few solid days with the EVGA SC17 gaming notebook, I’ve really fallen for it. The design and style, the all-metal body, the keyboard, the performance of the CPU and GPU all add up to an impressive package for gamers that want to take their passion on the go. Little extras like the integrated overclocking utility, a BIOS reset switch and keyboard shortcuts for changing performance profiles really add to the idea of quality and completeness. Yes, this is still a very expensive, very heavy notebook, but all that size and weight has a purpose – to bring desktop quality gaming with you in your backpack. We know that EVGA is planning a version later this year with a G-Sync display, but at what resolution and time frame I’m not sure.
