What HP seems to have done is taken a consumer notebook, given it a matte lid and 3D DriveGuard and rebranded it as a business machine. And for such an affordable option, there's little wrong with this approach. In fact, it wouldn't make too bad a personal notebook for those looking for some extra security. It's only really let down by its poor battery life, though that can be remedied by purchasing a separate eight-cell battery.

Overall, the construction of the notebook seems quite robust. The display panel hinge seems solid and, while we wouldn’t want to actually drop the unit (or leave it to aircraft baggage handlers), we expect that the 2230s will stand up to the punishment of everyday business travel. If you need something more than a netbook but don’t want to weighed down by a full-size notebook, the HP 2230s is a reasonable compromise. I would personally want more than 1Gb of RAM and possibly a larger hard drive, but as long as you’re happy running XP, the supplied configuration will suffice.

If you need a portable companion with robust security features but have been put off by the price of most ultraportables, the HP Compaq 2230s is worth a look. It isn't the flashiest or fastest notebook available, but it will get the job done and still leave some cash in your wallet.

The HP Compaq 2230s is a conservative-looking notebook with some features targeted towards small business users. Unlike most business or small business notebooks, this notebook doesn’t offer the rugged feel, only a rugged look. The plastic used throughout the design is weak even when compared to the HP Pavilion lineup. While the keyboard is impressive, it doesn’t outweigh the lackluster build quality. For small businesses my best recommendation would be to look at notebooks such as the HP Pavilion tx2500z or stepping up to the HP EliteBook series.

It’s not a powerful option and the inclusion of HDMI is questionable, but it’s still a great value choice if you need a portable notebook with plenty of security at your fingertips.

Comentario

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500MHD: GPU integrado (memória compartilhada) no chipset GM45 (Montevina). Graças a dois shaders a mais e uma freqüência de núcleo mais alta, é muito mais rápido que o antigo GMA X3100. Mesmo assim, não é recomendável para jogadores (jogos DirectX 10 não são fluidos e podem ser jogados somente com configurações muito baixas). O processador de vídeo integrado é capaz de ajudar a decodificar vídeos HD (AVC/VC-2/MPEG2), como para uma reprodução fluida de Blu-Ray com CPUs lentos.

Estes processadores gráficos podem mostrar fluidamente só jogos antigos. Jogos atuais só podem ser apresentados com detalhes substancialmente reduzidos.

Intel Core 2 Duo: Este é o sucessor do Core Duo e o Core Solo com um pipeline mais longo e com 5-20%  a mais de velocidade sem maior consumo de energia. Adicionalmente ao design do Core Duo existe um quarto decodificador, uma unidade SSE ampliada e uma unidade lógica aritmética (ALU) adicional.

Os Core 2 Duo para notebooks são idênticos aos processadores Core 2 Duo para desktops, mas os processadores para notebooks trabalham com tensões mais baixas e um Frontside bus clock mais baixo. O desempenho de notebooks igualmente clocked é 20-25% mais baixo que PCs Desktop  por causa do Frontside bus clock mais baixo e os discos rígidos mais lentos.
