Smartwatches such as the Huawei Watch GT 6 ($209 on Amazon) were previously only able to make contactless payments in Europe via Quicko. However, this system has significant limitations compared to Apple Pay and Google Pay. On the one hand, credit must be topped up in advance instead of simply using a debit or credit card, and on the other, Quicko is not accepted in many retail chains.
Huawei is now making amends, as Curve Pay is now also available for Huawei smartwatches. Curve Pay allows you to manage multiple cards and make contactless payments with them using the smartwatch's NFC chip, similar to Apple Pay. According to the provider, Curve Pay is available with any bank account and also allows cash withdrawals at an ATM. Curve Pay is compatible with the following Huawei smartwatches:
- Huawei Watch GT Runner 2
- Huawei Watch Ultimate 2
- Huawei Watch GT 6
- Huawei Watch GT 5
- Huawei Watch 5
- Huawei Watch Fit 4
To use the service, the Curve Pay app must first be downloaded from the Huawei AppGallery, the Apple App Store or Google Play. Once the app has been installed, set up and linked to the smartwatch, stored payment methods can be selected directly on the smartwatch via an integrated smart wallet instead of having to switch to the smartphone app every time. Curve Pay is free to use, but if you want features such as more cashback or higher limits for free payments abroad, you can take out various subscriptions.
