Ever heard of the middle child syndrome? That belief where middle children don't get as much love as the others? Well, this is the Samsung Galaxy S22+, the middle child between a more affordable base, and a more powerful ultra, but frankly, the phone I think is already more than enough for most people. See, it's a no-brainer to spend less for the S22, and it's understandable for Samsung to give more spotlight to the Ultra as that's their claim to fame, but it's interesting to see that there are quite a few differences between them. The Plus is both larger and more capable than the regular variant, and it's almost as if the Ultra is the step-brother that just moved in from the Note land. And sure, it looks a lot like its predecessor, but it turns out that in this case in particular, looks can be very deceiving.

Samsung’s expertise lies in hardware, and it shows on the Galaxy S22. You get the brightest and most colorful screen in the industry, a lightning quick in-screen fingerprint reader, new and improved cameras, and a laundry list of premium features like reverse wireless charging, IP68 water resistance and more. And all of this in a phone that costs the same as last year’s devices: $800 for the S22 or a thousand for the S22+.

Viewed in a vacuum, it's a great phone. A good camera with many hits but some misses as well, acceptable performance, and great battery life. Still, there seem to be some issues with the camera performance that should get fixed so that the phone can unleash its full potential, and that's my biggest gripe with this phone. The S22 Plus saves you some money compared to the Ultra and it also saves you from the hassle of carrying a gargantuan phone around. At the same time, if you are fine with the bigger size of the Ultra, you get so much more with that phone, starting with the S Pen to the zoom camera, bigger screen, and way more impressive battery size. And all of that at not too much of a price premium. So yes, the S22 Plus shapes up as an okay phone, but it is overshadowed by the Ultra and those who want the very best, should probably look in that direction first.

At the moment, Samsung's Galaxy S22 phones are effectively the only true Android flagships available in the US, because they're the only ones with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset and X65 modem. The OnePlus 10 Pro may soon arrive with the same specs, while Samsung is likely to launch a Flip and a Fold this fall with the latest hardware, and Motorola might be up to something as well. But until something unseats them, the S22 phones are the ones to beat. The small Galaxy S22 is a delightful size for one-handed use, but I'm concerned that its battery life is on the edge of acceptable. Many people care deeply about battery life, and the direct link between phone size and battery has prevented smaller premium handsets from selling well for a few years now. The S22 Ultra, on the other hand, has the best battery life in the lineup, a 10x camera, and a built-in slot for the included S Pen stylus. It's also huge, heavy, and expensive. The S22 Ultra is the natural (and worthy) successor to Samsung's Galaxy Note series, a lineup that had loyal fans (including my wife, an artist).

But there’s something else the Galaxy S22 series is revealing. For US consumers, the gap between Samsung and the Android competition is now even wider. As such, more than ever before, the US smartphone market is a two-horse race – Apple vs Samsung. Honestly, that’s kind of a bummer. So let’s hope OnePlus and Google step up their game later this year. Until then, the S22 Ultra and S22+ are the ultimate Android flagships, and deserve our Editor’s Choice award.

At $999.99, the Galaxy S22+ is no more expensive than last year's Galaxy S21+, though you'd still be forgiven for wincing at the idea of basically spending four-figures on a smartphone and not even getting the full flagship. Samsung offsets that pain with some healthy trade-in deals, not to mention a pre-order promotion that gets you the 256GB model for the price of the base 128GB version. If things stay true to form, meanwhile, even bolder deals are likely to arrive in short order; we've seen things like two-for-one promos or discounts of several hundred dollars in previous years, and I'd expect the same for 2022. As sweet-spots go, then, the Galaxy S22+ feels like the ripest cherry in Samsung's 2022 line-up. It may not be a fancy foldable, or have the most megapixels, or the biggest display, but neither does it feel like it's lacking. There are very good reasons not to pick the Ultra instead, beyond the money you save in the process, and while those who need to have the latest and greatest may think otherwise, for the mass market this mid-point is just right.

That being said, S21 owners shouldn't let fear of missing out push them into an expensive upgrade they don't need. The 888 hasn't lost its edge yet, and One UI 4.1 doesn't seem to have any S22-exclusive features that other Samsung phones won't get. Outside of the Material You coat of paint, not much has changed this year, and new camera features like the Expert RAW app will come to older Samsung phones too. If you do need a new phone, Samsung made a very strong contender for your business with the S22 Plus. Especially if you can snag one at a discount with a carrier deal and trade-in or a holiday deal down the line. While you may be tempted by the expensive, two-handed Galaxy S22 Ultra because of the RAM and resolution upgrades, I'd argue that spending that extra $300 doesn't match the upside. The Galaxy S22 Plus is a stronger alternative in terms of value-to-price ratio, with the speed, display, and cameras that you need in a phone you can (mostly) hold one-handed, whereas the Ultra is really only for people that will regularly use an S pen with your phone.

While we wait for the final benchmarks to roll in, I’m left ambivalent about the Galaxy S22 Plus. On the one hand, it’s a very good phone with plenty to offer and cameras that are more than good enough in most circumstances. On the other, it’s a marginal upgrade at best over the Galaxy S21 Plus, further cementing the idea that you don’t need to upgrade your phone every year. Your Galaxy S21 or Galaxy S21 Plus right now have basically the same software and cameras that are almost as good. In fact, the S22 Plus only stands out from its predecessor with its display. That 1,750 nits sure does come in handy while outdoors, and the 10Hz-120Hz refresh rate range should help battery life. That said, if you’re on a Galaxy S20, Galaxy Note 20, or anything older, then the Galaxy S22 Plus is a great upgrade. It’s powerful, it’s beautiful, and that display will certainly wow you if you’re coming from previous generations. We’ll update this review once we have final benchmarks and impressions.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus also known as Samsung Galaxy S22+, the latest flagship smartphone was announced in February 2022 at the price of $999 (Rs. 74,999 in India) approx. The S22 Plus got everything you expect from a flagship and is available in two variants; for India, USA, Europe that runs on a 4nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset for global and 4nm Exynos 2200 chipset for Europe. Samsung's latest flagship smartphones are finally here, and the first two that we'll introduce in this video is the Galaxy S22 and its slightly bigger sibling the Galaxy S22+ (Galaxy S22 Plus). It's February 9th, 2022 and as expected, today is the first of probably a few Samsung Galaxy Unpacked events. Virtual, I know.. Can't wait for us to get back to the in-person events, but the company was nice enough to give us an early preview of everything that got announced today, and well.. It's a lot. I'm Jaime Rivera with Pocketnow, and let's just dive in.

In a lot of ways, the S22 feels like the “tock” to the S21’s “tick.” Last year, Samsung rolled out a fresh new design, and now Samsung is following that up with a bunch of upgraded tech. Sure, the outside of the phone may have not changed a ton, but the updated colors look good, and coming from someone with a Phantom Green Z Fold3 that actually looks gray 99 percent of the time, the new green on the S22 is much richer and way more satisfying. And while we’ll need time to put the S22 through its paces, Samsung investing so much time and effort in the phone’s new cameras really shores up the biggest weakness of last year’s device. So even though it’s too early to hand anyone the crown for the best phone of 2022, the S22 feels like a thoughtful sequel to an already strong base. Pre-orders for the Galaxy S22 and S22+ start today with official sales beginning on February 25th. And for those who do pre-order, Samsung is including a free upgrade to the next storage tier and $100 worth of Samsung credit (or $150 for the S22+).

As Samsung's top-tier trio for 2022 (foldables excluded), the Galaxy S22s are by definition going to be great smartphones. The extent to which they excel in this or that area (or fall slightly short) will remain a mystery for a couple more weeks until review units start arriving, but a few things are clear already. For starters, the Galaxy S22 is leaning more towards being marketed as a true compact flagship, thanks to its smaller size than last year and the build to match the other two. On the flipside, the smaller battery capacity could be its most serious con. The Galaxy S22+ makes a simple trade-off then, offering longer runtimes and larger screen area at the expense of taking up more space in your pocket (though it will 'help' by freeing up an extra €/$200 worth of its contents). Another €/$200 on top will get you the Galaxy S22 Ultra and it's trying to be everything to everyone. Whether you look at it as an S21 Ultra successor, or the reincarnation of the Note lineup in all but name, it's packed to the brim with hardware.

The Samsung Galaxy S22 and S22+ finally get the powerplants that they deserve, which gives us hope in our quick review for the phone in terms of greater adoption for the Philippines. We’re a little iffy with the small-ish battery size on the phones, though again we’ll need to see in our full review of the Galaxy S22 and S22+ are able to last a whole day with plenty of use.

The S22 and S22 Plus should be reliably good phones with premium design, great screens and nippy internals. Time will tell just how good their new camera system is, and whether the phones can hold their own against the 108MP behemoth – the S22 Ultra, or other champs like the iPhone 13 Pro and Pixel 6. Early impressions are unabashedly positive for all three of Samsung’s S22 smartphones, with the S22 in particular set to be the slim phone lover’s choice weighing just 168g and measuring 7.6mm thin. Meanwhile, the S22 Plus is a OnePlus 9 Pro competitor, with its larger screen and sub-£1,000 price, while the Ultra, which you can read about in our S22 Ultra hands-on, delivers S Pen input, even bigger visuals, and a top-tier camera system.

At the end of the day, the question remains, should you buy the Galaxy S22 Plus? Well, it's way too early to say! Samsung will officially unveil the Galaxy S22 series in an Unpacked event on February 9th, and the phones are expected to hit shelves towards the end of February. We will definitely be testing the phones in great detail once we get our hands on them, so stay tuned for updates and a final verdict once we do that! Our early thoughts, however, are that the Galaxy S22 Plus is in a weird spot between the impressive Ultra model that will attract more attention and with the higher pricing, it will be hard for Samsung to compete against lower-priced Pixels and equally priced iPhones. But what do you think about this Plus version? Is this the right upgrade? Or should Samsung consider adding a few new features to justify the higher price, maybe a periscope zoom camera? Sound off with your thoughts in the comments below!
