In our Samsung Galaxy S25 Plus first look, the device feels polished and refined, with a lightweight design that enhances usability without compromising its premium build. While its aesthetic closely mirrors that of its predecessor, the incremental improvements in weight, size, and material design make it a pleasure to handle. Performance is undeniably snappy, thanks to the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy, while One UI 7 feels intuitive and responsive. Although the design may not feel groundbreaking, it builds on the strengths of its predecessor with sensible enhancements that users will appreciate.

Most of Samsung’s new additions are software-based, given the company’s massive partnership with Google and its dogged pursuit of an AI-heavy approach to offering a renewed phone experience through One UI 7 and the Samsung Galaxy S25 series. Many of these features work well, assuming you care enough to use them regularly and rely on them to make a difference. There’s no dispute that the entire mobile AI experience feels most seamless on a Samsung device. This is in addition to the assurance of Samsung Knox security and integration into other Samsung products, such as SmartThings-enabled appliances or its wearables, like the Galaxy Ring. However, it remains to be seen how the Samsung Galaxy S25 series (especially the Ultra) truly adds value to existing Samsung flagship users. If you’re on an older Korean flagship, chances are you have already experienced many cool AI features seen there either as a download or add-on, or you’ve relied on older versions of its firmware (pre-One UI 7).

All things considered, it appears that the Galaxy S25 Plus is a relatively small, but pretty important refinement of the Galaxy S Plus lineup, culminating with the best design, hardware, and software in the range. Thanks to this, the Galaxy S25 Plus shapes up to be a polished, reliable phone that improves the most essential aspects of a modern smartphone. Most of all, it's surely positioning as a compelling choice for those who don’t need an S Pen or the Ultra’s advanced camera system. The Galaxy S25 Plus refines the essentials of its lineup, delivering premium design, strong performance, and robust software support. Priced at $999 (256GB) and $1,119 (512GB), it offers excellent value as a reliable flagship alternative to competitors like the iPhone 16 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro.

Our team is currently hard at work putting the new Galaxy S25 series of phones through their paces and we’ll have full reviews of each model coming very soon. It could well be that my time with the Galaxy S25 Ultra changes my tune and I uncover some part of it I think truly makes it worth the upgrade. More likely, however, is that I’ll remain resolute that there’s no better time than now to look past the latest flagships and shop in the refurbished section – for the sake of the planet as much as your wallet.

Most of the new AI features seem to revolve around Google Gemini, which is also available on cheaper phones such as the Xiaomi 14T Pro, so I'm a bit confused by the positioning here. Given how expensive the Galaxy S25 phones are compared with their Chinese rivals, they don't seem to have enough to stand out for now. But then again, I wonder just how much AI features people use, and whether these features drive adoption. My gut says probably not a lot. Prices start from S$1,288 for the Samsung Galaxy S25 (256GB), S$1,478 for the Galaxy S25+ (256GB), and S$1,828 for the Galaxy S25 Ultra (256GB). Pre-orders are now open till Feb 13. In other news, the Samsung Galaxy Ring is finally available now in Singapore at S$538. We hope to get the review units for these devices soon, so stay tuned.

The Galaxy S25 Plus should be a top performer, and this generation gives Samsung's middle child more perks, with ProScaler from its TV cousins and more storage than the basic Galaxy S25. Still, when the iPhone 16 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro in this price range pack the best cameras, the Galaxy S25 Plus feels left behind – not quite an Ultra, and not quite Pro.

Some of the new features represent more meaningful progress. The phone’s AI assistant — which is now based on Google Gemini by default, with Samsung’s own Bixby relegated to access through its app — can control your phone with natural language requests. Ask it to make text bigger or find photos from your last holiday, and it should oblige. Gemini can now also work across multiple apps in a single interaction, though this upgrade isn’t exclusive to Samsung. It might look up a good restaurant and share it with your friend or pull up sports fixtures and add them to your calendar. The problem for me is that most of these features are hard to test in-depth when you’re at a launch event using a phone that isn’t yours, has few apps installed and no accounts signed in, and might have only been set up for the first time that morning.

While not much has changed on the Galaxy S25 and S25+, we appreciate Samsung for finally putting that 8GB/128GB variant to rest on the Galaxy S25, along with a shift to Snapdragon chips. When it comes to pricing, the Galaxy S25 looks enticing especially if you consider that it now has a base 12GB/256GB configuration.

At first glance, we had mixed feelings about Samsung’s Galaxy S25 series. While the hardware is solid as always, it doesn’t really push the envelope in terms of specs, which is somewhat disappointing. That being said, the customized Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC that powers these devices should deliver a nice boost in overall performance, along with improved thermals on the S25 Ultra. This should help to maintain performance during extended use. And again, some of the new AI features and functionality – like Gemini being able to interact directly with apps, and the “Personal Data Engine” secure, on-device LLM – is very intriguing. We’re looking forward to testing this in our forthcoming review.

Overall, while this might seem like an iterative update on the surface, the combination of the new Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, improved thermal management, and more sophisticated AI features makes this feel like a more substantial upgrade than in recent years. The Ultra,, with its improved ultra-wide camera and new build materials, is shaping up to be a compelling option for power users. The real test will be how all these AI features perform in daily use, and whether that new chip can maintain its performance over time. But from what we're seeing so far, Samsung seems to be taking meaningful steps forward, even if they're not all immediately visible on the surface.

The good news is that the rumors about price hikes weren't true, so the starting price of the entry-level configurations remains the same - €1,450/£1,250 for the S25 Ultra, €1,150/£1,000 for the S25+ and the vanilla asks €900/£800. The bad news is that all three offer modest upgrades over their predecessors, especially the S25 and the S25+. They both feel kind of neglected this time around. And while the S25 Ultra's new, more pocketable design is certainly exciting, the S Pen has lost its wireless connectivity features, which were the sole reason many of us here at GSMArena HQ took the stylus out to begin with. Samsung might as well do a full circle and offer a version without the stylus altogether. Anyway, one thing is clear - Samsung is betting big on AI and software polish and improvements, but it's early to say how this move will pan out regarding sales.

The Samsung Galaxy S25 series is now available for pre-order and will officially release on February 7th. In Canada, all three handsets have seen a price increase. The S25 starts at $1,198 CAD, the S25+ at $1,438.99, and the S25 Ultra at the insane price of $1,918.99; we can blame this on our dollar. Although the U.S. price for the S25 Ultra starts at $1,299, which converts to $1,862 CAD, so it looks like there’s a bit of a Canadian premium. I expect a similar experience to last year’s phones, but I hope these AI features will surprise me and upgrade the experience. I’ll put the S25 Ultra through its paces for the next two weeks. In the comments below, let us know what you think about the S25 series.

Samsung gives us "more of the same" with the Galaxy S25 Ultra and the Galaxy S25 Plus, while simultaneously improving some of the key areas that usually matter… and that's not bad, not bad at all! After all, Samsung has been figuratively killing it with its flagship in the past few years and seemingly feels quite comfortable releasing consistently great phones, arguably the best Android ones you can get your hands on. Sure, one might argue that the company is no longer bold and its flagships are nowadays boring, yet we can't argue that Samsung has been continuously perfecting the formula. As to which one should you get, that's entirely up to your size and feature needs: the Galaxy S25 Ultra is definitely the upper-tier and more feature-rich phone, with more head-turning aspects to it that will make it that much more premium than the Galaxy S25 Plus.

It's the same old story once again—or at least it seems that way at this preliminary stage. The Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25 Plus look strikingly similar, much like their respective predecessors, with the primary differences being screen size and battery capacity. This comparison will soon be updated with benchmark scores and camera samples. However, even at this point, it’s evident that Samsung is sticking to its usual formula: offering a slightly larger version of its standard flagship with a bigger battery and a larger screen. Whether people will be willing to pay the extra $200 for the Plus remains to be seen.

And that just about sums up how I feel about the Samsung Galaxy S25 at this early stage. It’s a flagship smartphone with loads of potential, especially with the promise of all these AI-driven features at launch, but I simply haven’t had enough time with the phone to form a well-rounded verdict yet. If it is indeed a handset that becomes smarter and more useful as you spend more time with it, then there’s not a whole lot I can test on a recently factory reset phone during a brief hands-on session. But rest assured, we will be receiving the S25 handsets for review very soon, and will be sure to put all of these AI-heavy features to the test over the coming weeks. Stay tuned for our full review.

My end feeling having spent a little time with the new Samsung phones is that it’s more of the same. Yes, we get a powerful new chipset this year, and a LOT of AI stuff, but the experience of holding, using and owning the latest S25 Plus will feel very much like the last one. It’s clear each new generation is just a small jump on the last one, and that’s very much true, perhaps more than ever, with the latest. With companies putting so much focus and attention on AI, there’s less focus on improving and upgrading hardware. If you have a 3-4 year old Samsung, by all means you’ll feel a difference jumping up those three or four generations, but anyone with a Samsung phone from the last two years will have very little reason to upgrade. Still, if you are upgrading this year, I still get the sense that this takes some good bits from the Ultra, offered in a package that’s lighter, slimmer and more affordable, hopefully retaining its spot as the Goldilocks Samsung phone for 2025.

All things considered, it appears that the Galaxy S25 Plus will unsurprisingly be an incremental improvement over the Galaxy S24 Plus. Should we be worried that Samsung has been announcing basically the same phone for a couple of years now? Well, yes and no. On one hand, it's the Galaxy S25 Ultra that will be the star of the show, so a mediocre evolutionary upgrade for the mid-range device is expected. On the other hand, with a thinner design, possibly brighter display, and a powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, it’s shaping up to be a polished, reliable device nonetheless. While it may not offer groundbreaking innovation, the focus on refinement ensures that the Galaxy S25 Plus will meet the needs of those seeking a dependable and high-performing Android flagship. If prices remain unchanged, so a $1,000 for the base model, we might be once again looking at a dependable phone that will clash well with the likes of the iPhone 16 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro.
