The notebook we are looking at today is the G2 notebook which comes outfitted with a ATI Radeon Mobility X1700, a large 17" LCD screen, and some unique lighting features. In the end, I think the Asus G2 is a good gaming product for the mid-range market. It doesn't break the bank like your typical SLI notebook and provides some decent game performance. The Asus G2 is a well rounded product offering a excellent balance of price, CPU performance, gaming ability, and slick style. However, if you're really serious about gaming I would suggest researching other models as they may prove to offer more gaming bang for the buck.

Asus regularly wows us with innovative products such as the ultraportable $399 Eee PC and experiments with secondary Sideshow displays, but how does the company fare building a typical 17-inch gaming system? While high-end gaming rigs from Alienware can run more than $3,000, the Asus G1 gives you a decent set of specs--a few steps down from the top-of-the-line--for a reasonable $1,999 (although the Toshiba X205 offers twin SLI GPUs and a slower processor for the same price). The G2's unique look is a nice change of pace from the corporate Dell/Gateway/etc. design philosophies, but serious gamers will need more video-card muscle than the included Nvidia GeForce 8600 will provide. The G2S has a decidedly industrial flair, with a brushed-metal lid and wrist rest and black interior.

ASUS has been catching the eye of many Best Buy customers with its newest gaming laptops. Both the ASUS G1S and ASUS G2S offer cool design elements and flashy colors. The bigger of the two, the G2S, is a sleek 17-inch laptop that the company is touting as the total gaming package. While it hits that mark with the 1,920-by-1,200 screen resolution and the crimson highlights (as opposed to the G1S's wasabi-green trim), the processing parts wouldn't necessarily give you bragging rights at LAN parties. But at $1,850 (street), it might be the perfect laptop for weekend and entry-level gamers.
While the G1S focused on an all-black exterior, the G2S's lid is plated with brushed aluminum against the contrasting black trimmings, a nice touch. The cover's handsomeness contrasts starkly with the series of tacky crimson streaks that run down the outer edge of the screen and extend into the keyboard area.

Despite a lack of portability, this gaming rig holds its own when it comes to graphics, display, and gaming experience. Reliable and relatively sturdy, the Asus G2S-A1 isn't as portable as some gaming rigs, and it's not quite able to compete against the most tricked-out and egregiously priced models on the market. But it still has plenty going for it, including DirectX 10 graphics, a knockout display, and a solid gaming experience.
The G2S-A1's display is noticeably wide and deepe, at 16 x 12 x 1.8 inches. The G2S-A1's physical layout is similar to Asus' G1 notebook, with the biggest exception being the accents. The G2S-A1's body is black with red inlays and lights, versus the previous generation's black body with green accents. In addition to the typical ports and slots, you'll find four USB ports on the back, along with eSATA and HDMI ports.

The Asus G2S-A1 is classified as a "desktop replacement" laptop due to the size of the screen, which measures 17.1 inches, and its weight which comes in at 9.6 pounds. I opted to add one gigabyte of RAM, for a total of three, as my only configuration change from stock. This is my first laptop. I decided to purchase the G2S-A1 because I don't think I will be moving it around all that much. Once I narrowed my choices down to one brand, I had to choose between the 15.4 inch G1S-A1 or the 17.1 inch G2S-A1. I do tend to travel about once a month, but plan to leave the laptop in place once I reach my destination. While at home I move about from place to place in the house thanks to the wireless networking, but tend to set up camp in one area for a few hours to most of the day. I also like to play games both at home and away, so I opted for the larger screen and higher resolution of the G2S-A1. I am extremely happy with my purchase of the Asus G2S-A1. I feel that this laptop will provide me with many years of service and enjoyment. GenTech Computers was more than helpful in the purchase process and I would highly recommend them to anyone.

Asus: Asus é um fabricante internacional de porte médio. Em paises de língua inglesa e alemã, hoje em dia muitos portáteis da Asustec são analisados. Apesar disto, poucos modelos portáteis atingem posições altas de acordo com classificações totais e escalas de preço/valor.
Estas placas de vídeo de classe média podem mostrar todos os jogos atuais fluentemente. Jogos exigentes somente podem ser jogados com configurações de detalhes médios.
ATI Mobility Radeon X1700: A placa de vídeo ATI Mobility Radeon X1700 para notebooks é a sucessora da ATI Mobility Radeon X1600. Alcança um desempenho mais alto com o mesmo consumo de energia devido a strained Silicon. Devido a píxel- y vertex-pipelines adicionais o desempenho é claramente superior ao do X1600 e pelo tanto suficiente para jogos atuais com configurações altas y medias. O concorrente direto deveria ser NVIDIA GeForce Go 7700.
Também uma variante XT com um clock provavelmente maior (codename M66-XT) poderiam ser planejadas.
NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT: NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT é a sucessora direta DirectX 10 da GeForce Go 7600 GT para portáteis. Dependendo da memória gráfica usada e a velocidade de freqüência, o desempenho entre as placas de vídeo 7600 GT e 7900 GS. Por tanto, jogos atuais como Company of Heroes, Supreme Commander, ou F.E.A.R podem ser jogados fluentemente com altos detalhes numa resolução de 1024 ou similar. Jogados que o tempo todo esperam frame rates supremos, deverão esperar a serie 8800 da NVidia.
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600 é uma placa de video DirectX 10 da ATI e concorrente direto da placa de vídeo NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS para notebooks. Isto significaria que a placa é capaz de representar todos os jogos modernos em alta resoluções medias e sem Antialiasing sem interrupções de movimento.
NVIDIA GeForce 8700M GT: NVIDIA GeForce 8700M GT é uma placa de vídeo e capaz de DirectX 10. Tecnicamente, conta com 32 processadores Stream como a 8600M GT, mas o core-, shader- e freqüência da memória é maior. Por tanto o desempenho é algo superior ao 8600M GT (de acordo a anúncios da NVidia, claramente melhor) e deveria ser suficiente para todos os jogos atuais.

Intel Core 2 Duo: Este é o sucessor do Core Duo e o Core Solo com um pipeline mais longo e com 5-20% a mais de velocidade sem maior consumo de energia. Adicionalmente ao design do Core Duo existe um quarto decodificador, uma unidade SSE ampliada e uma unidade lógica aritmética (ALU) adicional.
Os Core 2 Duo para notebooks são idênticos aos processadores Core 2 Duo para desktops, mas os processadores para notebooks trabalham com tensões mais baixas e um Frontside bus clock mais baixo. O desempenho de notebooks igualmente clocked é 20-25% mais baixo que PCs Desktop por causa do Frontside bus clock mais baixo e os discos rígidos mais lentos.
AMD Turion 64 X2: O AMD Turion 64 X2 está feito para ser posicionado contra o Intel Core Duo, foi apresentado em 17 de maio de 2006. O consumo de energia não é maior que com os notebooks Centrino-Duo (TL-45 com ATI Xpress e Mobility Radeon X300). Isto significa que aproximadamente o mesmo tempo de bateria e funcionamento do ventilador pode ser esperado (com este chipset). Os portáteis DTR podem ser carregados facilmente, precisam de mais energia, mas por outra parte os textos podem ser lidos facilmente e altas resoluções não são problema. Os DTR principalmente são destinados a um uso fixo em cima de escritórios, onde o peso e a energia não são importantes.
