That’s no longer the case with the ROG Flow Z13 (2023), as advancements in GPU tech have turned the idea of a powerful, thin, and light tablet into reality. It’s not often that you’ll be able to play AAA games with graphical settings set to ultra in a random Starbucks, but that’s the flexibility and the freedom that the ROG Flow Z13 (2023) gives you. The only issue is the price – at Php 140,000, the ROG Flow Z13 (2023) is expensive, far more expensive than your typical high-end gaming laptop. But then again those things are usually not as powerful, or as compact as ASUS’ latest gaming tab.

While the ROG Flow Z13 has its shortcomings, it certainly knows how to make its presence felt. This is a stupidly powerful machine in a crazy shell that is meant to enable you to carry it wherever you go. You can use it as a standalone machine or hook it up to an external monitor and enjoy its full power at your beck-and-call. Of course, you can buy laptops with more horsepower from competing lineups, but this is going to be a different experience from a conventional gaming laptop. And that’s because Asus is headed in a good direction if it steadily keeps improving upon it. This is a second-generation product right now. But three or four years down the line, it could shed a lot of weight, gain some hours in battery life, and have even more power.

You can find the first group of people fairly easily by itself, and you also can find plenty of gamers out there. I wonder how many people actually contemplated on buying this exact laptop, because even the Flow X13 would’ve been a much more sensible option – you still get touchscreens, better cooled hardware, slightly more expansive I/O and bigger battery too. At RM8,999 (the sole spec coming to Malaysia so far), this is far from the ‘value’ option even among ROG models, so you’ll need to evaluate if portability-over-performance is more suitable for you, or a more conventional performance-over-portability clamshell gaming laptop will get the job done better. If you happen to fit within that tiny niche of needing a high-performance gaming tablet and Flow X13 just won’t cut it for whatever reason, well – you don’t really have a second option, do you?
