In this video, we pit Motorola's latest budget-friendly mid-rangers on the US market - the Moto G (2026) against its more affordable sibling, the Moto G Play (2026), to see where the real value lies. While they look almost identical, the differences under the hood might surprise you.

EN→PTThe Moto G (2026) is easy to understand on paper - it's a $200 5G phone that's actually widely available unlocked in the US, and it comes from a brand with a strong retail presence and a clean Android skin. In a market where decent sub-$250 options aren't exactly overflowing, that alone will be enough for some buyers. The same is mostly true for the Moto G Play (2026) as well, though it comes with even more compromises for not a lot of monetary savings. And to be fair, Motorola did get a few things right. The design is classy and well put together, the eco-leather finish feels nice, and you still get the increasingly rare combo of a dedicated microSD slot, a 3.5mm jack and FM radio.

EN→PTThe 2026 Motorola Moto G Play is a step up from the 2024 model, though we expect that for a $30 price increase. The new G Play has a faster and brighter screen, a quicker processor, swifter 5G performance, and a longer-lasting battery. Despite these upgrades, the phone's limited storage, low-resolution display, mediocre cameras, and short support window keep it from standing out amongst fierce competition. For $20 more, we recommend the Samsung Galaxy A16 5G instead, which offers notable improvements across all the areas where the Moto G Play falls short, earning it our Editors' Choice award.

EN→PTAfter reviewing and testing both phones, I'd say the Moto G Play (2026) is the better phone for most people. Mainly it is because of its significantly better battery life. If you’re buying a phone for an elderly user, a child, or as a backup device, the Moto G Play makes more sense. The Moto G (2026) comes with only one major benefit, and that's the charging speed. That said, I wouldn't say that trumps longer battery life, especially considering the hours the Moto G Play can last.

EN→PTThe Motorola Moto G Play 2026 is just about everything the Moto G 2026 is, but at a slightly lower price point, at the cost of a few extra features. In other words, the Moto G Play 2026 is exactly what you want out of a budget phone. It offers decent everyday performance to the average user, it has a decent camera, a long-lasting battery, and it comes with a pretty big screen. And of course, it’s stylish, like, really stylish. It doesn’t look or feel cheap, and that can be a pretty important thing in a budget phone. Motorola understands that just because the phone doesn’t cost a whole lot of money, that doesn’t mean it has to suck.

EN→PTAfter using the Moto G Play (2026), I came away thinking it does exactly what it’s supposed to do for the price. It lasts forever on a charge, feels nicer in the hand than a sub-$200 phone has any right to, and handles basic tasks without major frustration. If your needs are light and your budget is tight, it’s easy to understand why this phone makes sense. That said, the Moto G Power (2026) looks like the version that fixes most of the compromises I had to accept with the Play. The jump to a Full HD display alone should make a big difference day to day, and the extra RAM, better camera hardware, faster charging, and wireless charging all add up to a phone that should feel far less limiting over time. If I were buying a phone purely as a secondary device or for someone with very basic needs, I’d still be comfortable recommending the Moto G Play.

EN→PTUnless you’re really desperate, I’d recommend looking elsewhere for a cheap phone. Despite its attractive $179 cost, the Moto G Play (2026) just underperforms in too many areas to justify the savings. Cameras and performance top my list in what I value most in a phone, which are areas where the Moto G Play (2026) really compromise the most. For $100 more, the CMF Phone 2 Pro offers a more compelling package complete with a more versatile triple camera system, better software experience, and double the storage and RAM. There’s also the Moto G (2026) that’s a smidge more at $199, but could offer better value with its 50MP AI-powered camera, faster 30W wired charging, 128GB storage, and perhaps brighter screen. Stay tuned for our full review of that phone.

EN→PTThe Moto G Play 2026 is a great budget phone for someone with single tasking in mind. It’s when you get into multitasking, or going in for the picture quality, that’s when the seams really start to show.

EN→PTThe Moto G Play (2026) provide an alright experience for its price tag. It comes with a servicable main camera, decent performance for the price, and a very long battery life. That said, it’s not meant for heavy apps, intense games, or photography enthusiasts. As an alternative, Samsung's Galaxy A16 5G sits just above it in price ($199), and it offers meaningful upgrades for about $20 more, especially in storage, software support, and camera performance, so it's worth checking out. Still. the Moto G Play (2026) is a decent choice for its price range, and a good phone for an elderly person, a kid, or a backup.

EN→PTThe Moto G Play (2026), announced on November 5, 2025, and released shortly after on November 13, continues Motorola’s focus on value in the budget 5G segment. It comes with a familiar yet comfortable design featuring a Gorilla Glass 3 front, a silicone-polymer eco-leather back, and a water-repellent coating. The phone has a large 6.7-inch IPS LCD with a 120Hz refresh rate, HD+ resolution (720 × 1604), and about 262 ppi, offering decent clarity for everyday tasks. Its 1000 nits peak brightness makes outdoor visibility manageable for the price. The device runs on Android 16, giving it a modern and clean software experience. Performance is handled by the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 chipset built on a 6nm process, paired with an octa-core CPU and Mali-G57 MC2 GPU.

EN→PTThe $180 Moto G Play is as simple a phone as you should go. And as far as bargain phones go, if all you need is a device for phone calls, video chats, texting and light media use, it could be quite viable for those simpler needs. However, if you try to do anything more advanced than that, you'll quickly reach a point where you should consider a more expensive device. If you need more than 64GB of space (and honestly you probably do), then instead of buying a microSD card you should just take that money and put it towards a $200 phone that comes with 128GB of onboard storage space. If you want a device that takes nicer photos, this isn't it. And if you want a phone that punches above its price, look elsewhere, as the Moto G Play meets expectations for a $180 handset.

EN→PTDespite its downsides, the Moto G Play 2026 has some redeeming qualities. The vegan leather back provides a nice finish that you don't have to worry about breaking, the battery life is more than enough for most people, and the inclusion of 5G means this phone is already a step up from its predecessor. That said, you would have to tolerate occasionally laggy performance, a subpar camera, and charging that's slower than molasses in an igloo. If you can't manage, consider other options for Android phones under $200, particularly older models that may perform just as well or better. The Moto G Play 2026 doesn't feel like a bad phone; it just feels like a $179 phone. In that sense, you're getting exactly what you pay for, meaning you take the good with the bad.
