The Pad Lite makes a strong case for itself with excellent battery life and build that feels anything but basic. While you don’t have to spend a huge amount more to get a tablet with a more powerful processor or higher pixel count screen, few of ’em have software as stripped back as OnePlus’s. I think it’s the ideal first tablet, with no bloatware for mum and dad to strip out, a parental control mode for younger kids, just enough grunt for casual games and multitasking abilities that could come in handy when doing homework. For everyone else, getting a decent long-term update commitment and LTE connectivity for sensible money carries its own appeal. If you’re trying to keep costs down, this is a great starting point.

If you’re looking for a versatile tablet that can double as a laptop replacement, this is not it. I’d recommend picking up the Honor Pad 10, instead: it’s more expensive at £300, but that also gets you the keyboard case and stylus thrown (at the time of writing), so it’s a bargain price for the whole bundle. If you don’t need the productivity features, however, there’s no need to spend that much. The OnePlus Pad Lite isn’t trying to replace your laptop; it just wants to be a solid screen for streaming on the go. And it fulfils that role very well. The display is bright and punchy, the build is wonderfully robust, and battery life is some of the best around. For a second, third or fourth screen to have in your arsenal for dedicated portable streaming, the OnePlus Pad Lite is an excellent choice.

At around £200 for our SKU, the OnePlus Pad Lite is one of the best tablets in its price bracket, especially for a cellular model. You can get faster slabs with more premium displays at this price range, but most come with bloated operating systems, limited long-term support, less innovation on the software front, and have you leaning on free WiFi or your phone tether for connectivity. So long as you don’t need breakneck performance and crystal clear visuals, it’s a great stowaway media device with workable productivity chops in a pinch. A 33% price jump can get you a clearer screen and more oomph with the Honor Pad V9, with this year’s TCL NXTPaper 11 Plus being a potentially better option for avid readers.

Don't expect Snapdragon 8 Elite performance like the Pad 3, but you'll still enjoy some serious longevity between charges. The OnePlus Pad Lite could work for students, families and basically anyone after a dependable tablet on a budget. There's no keyboard cover, but you can split-screen with a simplified version of OpenCanvas. The OnePlus Pad Lite offers a crisp and reasonably poppy LCD display - no OLED tech here sadly. Those speakers are impressive too. Plus, OxygenOS remains one of the best launchers out there.

The OnePlus Pad Lite is a competent budget tablet, but it falls short of being truly competitive. It gets the basics mostly right: the 90Hz refresh rate is welcome in this price bracket, the 9340mAh battery delivers excellent longevity, and OxygenOS is refreshingly clean compared to the bloated interfaces found on many cheap Android tablets. If all you need is a simple streaming and browsing device, it’ll do the job without fuss. But the devil is in the details. The LCD screen, while smooth, is dimmer and less sharp than rivals like the Xiaomi Redmi Pad 2. The lack of expandable storage, a fingerprint scanner, and a headphone jack are all noticeable omissions on a budget device where practicality should be prioritised. If you’re already using a OnePlus phone and want tight integration, the Pad Lite makes a reasonable case for itself. But, at full price, it’s stuck between entry-level tablets that cost less and better-rounded mid-range options that don’t cost much more.

OnePlus Pad Lite is not trying to be everything. It’s not trying to replace your laptop, outperform an iPad, or game like a console. It’s a straightforward, well-made tablet for media consumption, casual productivity, and light multitasking—with a few standout features like LTE calling, great speakers and impressive software. If you can live with the trade-offs, there’s no better tablet under Rs 15,000.
