Qualcomm could soon launch a Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 1 SoC with improved tri-cluster design

A new premium mid-range Snapdragon 7 SoC is reportedly being tested by Qualcomm. Its prime and performance cores are running at 2.4+ GHz and Qualcomm could be looking to release it on TSMC's 4 nm node to match the speed of a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.

Industry insider Roland Quandt caught wind of an unreleased Snapdragon SoC that could be revealed soon. In a recent tweet, Quandt claims that Qualcomm is currently testing a Snapdragon 7 chip with codename SM7475, which has a tri-cluster design similar to the original Snapdragon 7 Gen 1, but a closer look reveals slightly different clock speeds.

For reference, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 has the prime Cortex-A710 core clocked at 2.4 GHz, while the three Cortex-A710 performance cores run at 2.36 GHz, and the four Cortex-A510 efficiency cores run at 1.8 GHz. According to Quandt, the unreleased Snapdragon 7 chip would get improved clocks, as the prime and performance (gold) cores run at 2.4+ GHz, while the efficiency (silver) silver cores remain running at 1.8 GHz.

WCCFTech suggests that this new chip could be named Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 1, given the similarity with the SM8475 that ended up as the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1. If Qualcomm replaces the prime A710 core with a new X3 and switches to TSMC 4 nm instead of Samsung 4 nm, we could see performance levels close to a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. The new premium mid-range Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 1 chip is expected to be announced together with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 on November 15.
