A Alienware reduziu acentuadamente o novo aparelho, em comparação com seus predecessores e, em troca aceitou ventoinhas levemente mais barulhentos. Infelizmente, o desempenho sofre do uso não otimizado do Turbo da CPU, afogamento menores durante o teste de estresse e leve afogamento da GPU sob carga. Durante os jogos, a perda de desempeno é pequena, mas dado que os gamers normalmente são apaixonados pela tecnologia, podem achar que isto é uma desvantagem em comparação com o Asus G751JY-T7009H mais robusto.

Dito isso, não há muito para reclamar sobre o Alienware 17 R2. A carcaça é convincente em todos os aspectos, mas teríamos apreciado se fosse mais fácil ter acesso à bateria e ventoinha. Gostamos muito do teclado, e o touchpad também não precisa se esconder atrás da concorrência. Outros pros são a tela brilhante e de alto contraste, o sistema de som e a duração relativamente longa da bateria. Finalmente, o fabricante também pré-instalou diversos programas feitos especialmente para gamers como o Killer Network Manager, AlienFX e TactX. Estas são características parcialmente exclusivas da Alienware.
