The WLED screen looks good with a native resolution of 1366 x 768, which is a little higher than 720P HD (1280 x 720). While the screen is nice on the eyes, what really stands out are the speakers and how nice they’re on the ears. Using JBL speakers, the XPS 14 offers some serious sound quality; much higher than you’ll see from most other notebooks, especially ones in this size.

The range of available specs is equally impressive for the price and battery life is top of its game, though at just over 2kg you’d expect no less. The only real fly in the Ultrabook ointment is the admittedly high-resolution TN screen, which suffers from the usual poor viewing angles. If you can live with this and don’t need touch for Windows 8, the Dell XPS 14 makes for a good if somewhat weighty choice.

Dell: A Dell é uma fabricante norte-americana (com sede no Texas) de hardware de computador fundada em 1984 e é uma das maiores fabricantes internacionais em termos de participação de mercado e modelos de notebooks. Sua linha de produtos inclui desktops, notebooks, sistemas de armazenamento, monitores, servidores, impressoras, eletrônicos de consumo e periféricos. A Dell oferece notebooks adequados para várias aplicações, como notebooks comerciais, notebooks para jogos, ultraportáteis e estações de trabalho. Os laptops empresariais da Dell das séries Latitude e Precision são uma opção para usuários profissionais e empresas.

Em 2023, a Dell tinha uma participação de mercado de aproximadamente 17% nas vendas globais de PCs, ocupando a terceira posição, depois da Lenovo e da HP.

Para os entusiastas de jogos, a marca Alienware da Dell é para notebooks para jogos.

Cada núcleo se baseia na micro-arquitetura Nehalem (Westemere). O Hyperthreading permite que o CPU Dual Core suporte 4 threads de uma vez (para um melhor uso do pipeline). Comparado com o Core i5-540M, o 460M não suporta as funções AES, VT-d e Trusted Execution e apresenta um Turbo Boost mais lento (2,8 contra 3,06 GHz).

3317U: CPU ULV baseado em Ivy-Bridge no segundo trimestre de 2012. Oferece uma freqüência de 1,7 - 2,6 GHz e um GPU HD 4000 (350 - 1050 MHz). O TDP é de 17 W.

Intel Core i7:

740QM: O Core i7-740QM é um CPU quad-core de alta capacidade para portáteis (em 2010) com uma freqüência base relativamente baixa e uma freqüência Turbo Boost máxima alta de 2,93 GHz (para um núcleo). Portanto, combina as vantagens de um CPU quad core lento com um veloz cpu de um só núcleo. Comparado com os CPUs Core i7 móveis, o 740QM somente apresenta 6MB L3 Cache.

3517U: Veloz CPU ULV baseado em Ivy-Bridge no segundo trimestre de 2012. Oferece uma freqüência de 1,9 - 3,0 GHz e um GPU HD 4000 (350 - 1150 MHz). O TDP é de 17 W.
