You don't get fancy features like Dell's best trackpad or a build that's quite as light as some other options, but the laptop is reliable and gets the basics right. That said, if you're not tied to a single operating system, the M4 MacBook Air is still our top pick for the best laptop in this price range. It performs better, has a better screen, a thinner build, and a longer battery life. For some, those things aren't enough to switch to macOS, and if that's the case for you, then the Dell 14 Plus is worth considering, whether you go for the laptop or the 2-in-1.

But given that this is a 2-in-1, typically a form factor where the display takes center stage, the dim, lackluster panel makes this a less attractive option as a 2-in-1 than its clamshell sibling. Starting at $649.99 / £849 / AU$1,498.20, the Dell 14 Plus 2-in-1 does earn its place among the best 2-in-1 laptops this year thanks to its affordable starting price, especially in the US and Australia where the AMD Ryzen AI 300 configurations are available. When these configurations make it to the UK, the prices there ought to be much cheaper to start as well.

If you’re looking for a convertible laptop that is the whole package, the Dell 14 Plus 2-in-1 is not that laptop. If you’ve got the budget to spare, we’d recommend the Asus Vivobook 16 Flip or Lenovo Yoga 9i 2-in-1 Aura Edition instead. The Vivobook is just a bit pricier than the Dell 14 Plus and offers the more powerful Intel Core Ultra 7 258V chipset and a 16-inch OLED display. The Yoga 9i is far pricier but has a gorgeous OLED display that makes it fantastic for your next Netflix binge. However, if you need to stick to a tight budget, the Dell 14 Plus 2-in-1 is affordable and gives you great battery life and solid general performance. The Dell’s affordability does come at the expense of a vibrant display and quality audio, but if you want a 2-in-1 more for web surfing flexibility in tablet mode rather than for content streaming, it’s a decent choice. It’s just hard to recommend a convertible laptop that suffers from a poor display and poor audio.

The exterior is stylish and seems hard wearing, but then you open it up and the interior surfaces are plastic. That's likely to cause issues with longevity when folded back into notetaking or presentation modes, which is a shame because the laptop excels in non-standard configurations. Dell has clearly positioned this to undercut the Lenovo Yoga range, which is still where I'd aim my sights on if I wanted a convertible laptop at a reasonable price. But when you can get gems like the Asus Zenbook for less than the starting MSRP of the Dell, you have to ask if the stylus and plastic interior are worth it.

I spent a week with the Dell 14 Premium. Here’s why you should get a different laptop

At $1,700 — the cheapest price you can get the Dell 14 Premium with an OLED display — this laptop costs slightly more than it should. That price is $101 more than Apple’s 14-inch MacBook Pro M4, and both laptops pack 16GB of RAM, a 512GB SSD and a great screen. The MacBook Pro, however, boasts better battery life and a much better design with regular function row keys and a traditional touchpad. The Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x also packs a high-res OLED screen, and the same amount of memory and storage, and it’s $400 less (you can currently get one for $1,300 at Best Buy.) That laptop does carry the quirks of an Arm-based processor, which include lackluster support for legacy devices, as well as only running beta versions of some Adobe applications. It’s the best Windows laptop, but it’s still not without caveats.

2025 Dell 16 Premium and 14 Premium Laptop Review: XPS reborn with Arrow Lake processors in a familiar design

The new Dell 16 Premium and Dell 14 Premium have a couple of key differences from last year. The most obvious and main difference is that they are no longer called XPS. Arrow and Lunar Lake processors have proven to be much better on battery life with the new CPU/GPU/NPU integration, and that continues to be the case here. Normally, I might advise folks to save some money and purchase last year’s models discounted. But with the new performance boosts, you can’t go wrong with buying the Dell 16 Premium or the 14 now. Dell is already running specials to get the ball rolling on these new devices. Yes, you might miss the XPS name, but you’re essentially getting everything but the name here.

Dell: A Dell é uma fabricante norte-americana (com sede no Texas) de hardware de computador fundada em 1984 e é uma das maiores fabricantes internacionais em termos de participação de mercado e modelos de notebooks. Sua linha de produtos inclui desktops, notebooks, sistemas de armazenamento, monitores, servidores, impressoras, eletrônicos de consumo e periféricos. A Dell oferece notebooks adequados para várias aplicações, como notebooks comerciais, notebooks para jogos, ultraportáteis e estações de trabalho. Os laptops empresariais da Dell das séries Latitude e Precision são uma opção para usuários profissionais e empresas.

Intel Lunar Lake:

Core Ultra 7 256V: Um processador da família Lunar Lake de médio porte superior. Esse é um SoC para uso em laptops e tablets mais finos que apresenta 4 novos E-cores e 4 novos P-cores rodando a até 4,8 GHz, juntamente com a nova e promissora Arc 140V iGPU e 16 GB de RAM LPDDR5x-8533 no pacote. Um novo mecanismo neural 47 TOPS, TB 4 e suporte a SSD PCIe 5 também estão incluídos.

AMD :

Ryzen AI 7 350: Um processador relativamente potente da família Strix Point que foi lançado em outubro de 2024. A APU de arquitetura híbrida apresenta 8 núcleos de CPU (uma mistura de núcleos Zen 5 e Zen 5c) rodando a até 5,0 GHz, juntamente com o adaptador gráfico Radeon 880M e o mecanismo neural 50 TOPS XDNA 2. O AMD Secure Processor (que, em poucas palavras, é um coprocessador ARM integrado) está integrado, assim como alguns outros recursos de ponta, como o AMD-Vi. Outros recursos importantes incluem PCIe 4, USB 4 e suporte a RAM LPDDR5x-8000, incluindo RAM ECC. A meta de energia TDP de longo prazo pode chegar a 55 W.

Ryzen AI 5 340: Um processador relativamente potente da família Krackan Point que foi lançado no início de 2025. A APU integra 6 núcleos de CPU (três núcleos Zen 5 com até 4,8 GHz e três núcleos Zen 5c com até 3,4 GHz). O Ryzen AI integrado oferece até 50 INT8 TOPS para acelerar várias cargas de trabalho de AI.

Intel Arrow Lake:

Ultra 7 255H: Processador móvel de ponta baseado na arquitetura Arrow Lake com 16 núcleos divididos em 3 clusters. Os 6 núcleos P rápidos têm clock de até 5,1 GHz. Há também 8 núcleos E menores com até 4,4 GHz e 2 núcleos pequenos de baixo consumo de energia (mesma arquitetura) com até 2,5 GHz. Ele integra uma pequena NPU com desempenho de pico de 13 TOPS e oferece suporte ao vPro Essentials.
