Tradicionalmente, os projetos e tecnologias mais recentes seriam lançados primeiramente em modelos superiores antes da queda de água para produtos de nível médio e inferior ao longo do tempo. Luneis estreitos e painéis OLED, por exemplo, apareceram pela primeira vez em modelos emblemáticos como o Dell XPS ou o HP Spectre antes de estarem disponíveis na série inferior Inspiron ou Envy. O HP Pavilion Aero 13 é único, pois é um laptop de nível básico da HP e, no entanto, carrega um processador ainda mais rápido do que um laptop Spectre de mesmo tamanho de tela.
