A RTX 4080 Founders Edition se apresenta como uma GPU para jogos 4K Ultra capaz, com excelentes térmicas, características de ruído e eficiência energética. O lançamento do Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 começou com uma nota um tanto controversa, com a empresa tendo originalmente anunciado duas GPUs RTX 4080 - a RTX 4080 12 GB e a RTX 4080 16 GB - juntamente com a RTX 4090.

Embora a Nvidia justificasse a presença de um RTX 4080 12 GB, a imprensa e o público não foram muito receptivos à marca de um cartão supostamente da classe RTX 4070 como um "4080". Nvidia eventualmente"não-lançado"o RTX 4080 12 GB, e aqui estamos nós com a variante de 16 GB como a principal GPU de jogos da geração Ada.

Em Ampere, Nvidia usou a mesma GPU GA102 com diferentes configurações de núcleo CUDA em toda a RTX 3090 e RTX 3080 incluindo as versões Ti. Com o RTX 4080, a Nvidia não está apenas reutilizando um die de novo AD102 cortado, mas criou o die de novo AD103.

O molde AD103 é bastante diferente do AD102, e isto pode ser visto tanto na foto do molde quanto no projeto e layout do PCB e na configuração dos módulos de memória.

O RTX 4080 já tem um preço acima de US$ 1.000, o que nos leva a perguntar por que a Nvidia não usou simplesmente um AD102 nerfed com mais alguns núcleos CUDA. Uma explicação provável é que a Nvidia não tinha planos de fabricar tantos AD102, dado que os cartões da classe Titan ainda são um nicho de mercado

O AD102 no RTX 4090 já é 11% deficiente na contagem SM em comparação com a GPU AD102 completa. Portanto, provavelmente faz mais sentido ter apenas um novo molde feito em grandes volumes voltado para a multidão de jogos, em vez de apenas ganhar fichas emblemáticas.

O RTX 4080 apresenta 40% menos núcleos CUDA em comparação com o RTX 4090, mas o déficit de desempenho geralmente está na marca de 20% na maioria dos casos. Os testes V-Ray 5 CUDA e RTX vêem o RTX 4080 atrás do RTX 4090 em 27% e 29%, respectivamente. No entanto, ainda vemos mais de 40% de benefícios quando comparado com o RTX 3090 Ti, o que é impressionante.

Vemos 70% de vantagem em comparação com o RTX 3080 Ti nos testes GPU V-Ray 4.1 e GPU LuxMark Room. No entanto, as placas AMD dominam como de costume na LuxMark Sala.

Observamos que a pontuação do Blender 3.3 CUDA está muito abaixo da marca, semelhante ao que tínhamos observado anteriormente com o RTX 4090, o que não faz sentido. O desempenho nos jogos é o que mais conta com cartas convencionais como a RTX 4080 e abaixo. No geral, vemos que o RTX 4080 FE é cerca de 14% deficiente nos jogos quando comparado ao RTX 4090 FE

Por outro lado, o RTX 4080 FE vê ganhos de 20%, 37%, 41% e 57% em comparação com o RTX 3090 Ti, RX 6950 XT, RTX 3080 Ti médio, e RX 6900 XT, respectivamente nos títulos testados.

Jogar no 4K Ultra em títulos modernos é fácil com esta carta, sem qualquer necessidade de aumento de escala. A grande maioria dos títulos é jogável a mais de 100 fps a 4K Ultra, sendo que os mais exigentes requerem alguma afinação, se necessário.

Ray tracing performance

Como observado em nossa revisão RTX 4090 FE, Nvidia está introduzindo novos dutos de traçado de raios com a arquitetura Ada. No entanto, estes benefícios nem sempre são aparentes. Embora o RTX 4080 tenha quase 41% menos núcleos de RT em comparação com seu primo maior, vemos que o desempenho de traçado de raio nativo a 1080p não é muito impactado em títulos como Metro Exodus (Edição não-Amortada), Watch Dogs: Legion , e Far Cry 6.

Entretanto, o delta com o RTX 4090 FE começa a se ampliar com jogos como Control (-12%), Ghostwire: Tokyo (-14%) Dying Light 2 (-24%), e Cyberpunk 2077 1,5 4K (-28%).

Dito isto, ainda vemos ganhos notáveis de até 49% quando comparado ao RTX 3080 Ti e de até 38% contra o RTX 3090 Ti

Ganhos adicionais podem ser vistos com o DLSS 3 e quando os desenvolvedores adicionam suporte ao agendamento do Shader Execution Reordering (SER) da Ada para o processamento eficiente dos raios secundários na cena.
