A AMD Radeon R9 M390X é uma placa de vídeo móvel de gama alta para portáteis. Provavelmente se baseia no mesmo chip que a AMD Radeon R9 M295X no iMac 5K de finais de 2014. Isso significa que deve se basear na terceira geração do GCN (chip Tonga de desktop). A quantidade de núcleos de shader é igual mas a velocidade do núcleo é reduzida por 15% (de 850 MHz para 723 MHz) e a memória também tem velocidade reduzida (5448 MHz contra 5000 MHz).

O desempenho deve estar um pouco abaixo do da M295X. Comparado com a concorrência, a R9-M390X deve se posicionar entre a GeForce GTX 965M e a 970M e, portanto, é adequada para jogos de gama alta com resolução de 1080p e configurações de detalhes altos.

A placa foi mencionada pelo primeira vez pela Alienware em sua conta do twitter e deve ter 4GB de VRAM de acordo com o tweet.

O consumo de energia deve ser de um TDP de cerca de 100 Watts e, portanto, adequado apenas para portáteis robustos e grandes (como o Alienware M17x no qual foi anunciado).
