Intel Core i7-8665U

O Intel Core i7-8665U é um SoC quad-core eficiente para computadores portáteis e Ultrabooks baseado na geração Whiskey Lake que foi anunciado em Abril de 2019 como parte de dois processadores vPro habilitados para WHL-U. Em comparação com os processadores semelhantes denominados Kaby Lake-R (por exemplo Core i7-8550U), as CPUs Whiskey Lake são agora produzidas num processo melhorado de 14nm (14nm++) e oferecem velocidades de relógio mais elevadas. A arquitectura e as características são as mesmas. A i7-8665U oferece, por exemplo, altas velocidades de relógio Turbo de 4,8 GHz (contra 4 GHz da i7-8550U) para um único núcleo. A GPU integrada é ainda denominada Intel UHD Graphics 620 e o controlador de memória de canal duplo ainda suporta as mesmas velocidades de RAM que o Kaby-Lake-R (DDR4-2400 / LPDDR3-2133). Em comparação com o Core mais lento i5-8265U e i3-8145U, o i7 deve suportar o aumento da velocidade térmica (como o Core i7-8565U, o predecessor).

Os SoCs Whiskey Lake são utilizados com uma nova PCH produzida em 14nm que suporta partes USB 3.1 Gen 2 (10 Gbps) e CNVi WiFi/BT.

Arquitectura

A Intel utiliza basicamente a mesma micro arquitectura comparada com a Skylake e a Kaby Lake, pelo que o desempenho por-MHz não difere. Isto significa que o Whiskey Lake é um chip Kaby Lake fabricado no processo melhorado de 14nm++.

Desempenho

O desempenho da i7-8665U depende da solução de arrefecimento do portátil e dos limites definidos do TDP para um desempenho a curto e longo prazo. Já vimos grandes diferenças para o Kaby Lake-R (por exemplo, i7-8550U benchmarks), especialmente para o desempenho a longo prazo (sustentado). Por conseguinte, será interessante ver como a velocidade adicional do relógio Turbo pode ser utilizada. Devido ao Turbo Boost 200 MHz mais elevado, o 8665U deverá superar o desempenho do i7-8565U (ver para os valores de referência).

Gráficos

A Intel UHD Graphics 620 (Intel Gen 9.5) integrada é intocada a partir dos chips do 8º Gen Kaby Lake. Com memória rápida de dois canais pode alcançar o desempenho de uma GeForce 920M dedicada.

Ao contrário da Skylake, Kaby Lake e Whiskey Lake agora também suporta H.265/HEVC Main 10 com uma profundidade de cor de 10 bits, bem como o codec VP9 do Google. Os processadores dual-core Kaby Lake anunciados em Janeiro deverão também suportar o HDCP 2.2.

Consumo de energia

O chip é fabricado num processo melhorado de 14nm com transístores FinFET (14nm++), o mesmo que os processadores do 8º Gen Coffee Lake. A Intel ainda especifica o TDP com 15 Watts, o que é típico para os chips ULV. Dependendo do cenário de utilização, o TDP pode variar entre 7,5 (cTDP Down) e 25 Watts.
